Commodity Trading

IEP’s leadership managed all aspects of Allegheny Energy’s national commodity trading floor across multiple commodities and markets. In 2002, at the height of the Enron-related disruption across the industry, IEP’s COO was given the challenging assignment to turnaround a highly unprofitable trading floor while Allegheny Energy faced a period of extreme financial distress.  The organization was completely retooled, establishing a culture of accountability, teamwork, and risk control compliance.   Profitability was re-established within two years after earning the leadership post.  From there, the organization delivered over $465 million in incremental value over and above the profits attributable to the power plants between 2002 and 2011.
